Esteemed Dutch designer Aldo Bakker (b. 1971) has an uncompromising take on design. His work has a delicate and rare sense of harmony and the shapes communicate through association, touch, texture, and materiality. His designs are often strange, yet strangely familiar. Always intended to trigger a response. Widely published, Bakker’s Green Urushi Console is one of the artist’s iconic designs and was included in numerous museum exhibitions around the world.
Hand lacquered using the traditional Japanese Urushi lacquering techniques, the Urushi Console design depicts the simplest concept of a table: two legs and a surface. The legs are an elongation of the line created by the tabletop. The tabletop and the base of the legs have the same width, making them equally important to the design.
