Ed. of 15 | Numbered and Signed by the Artist
Pivot features a playful and chunky shape with a fine and delicate structure around the lid. All of which is in stark contrast to the extravagance of the materials used to fabricate the piece, 100% fine silver, plated with gold. Aldo Bakker, “I question the most common significance of products and thus also their use. In an ideal situation, every object takes on its own character and gains its own legitimacy. My designs are not based on fashion. They are unique pieces, not necessarily understandable at a glance, but meant for a slow, layer by layer exploration.”
The Pivot pourer results from the long-standing collaboration between Aldo Bakker and revered silversmith Jan Matthesius.
Exhibited at Looiersgracht 60, a prominent design gallery in Amsterdam for a show titled "Containing Content" in 2015 where Bakker presented an exhibition of five jugs: Pivot, Pipe, Soy Pourer, Pot, and Square Pourer.
Dutch writer, Hans den Hartog Jager wrote the following in the artist's biography for the show, "Bakker rarely starts a design from the desire to solve a practical problem. In fact, though Baker may unmistakably be a designer, his interest in functionality only comes in at the latest stage."
The five jugs presented in the 2015 exhibition epitomize Bakker's inclinations of function following form.
