Description

This series is designed from the Ginkgo Biloba tree, one of the oldest tree species in the world. In Japanese culture, the Ginkgo tree symbolizes eternity and hope and was the only tree that survived the Hiroshima bombing. In Chinese culture, the Ginkgo is a sacred tree that symbolizes duality: the masculine and feminine, the sky and earth, the seen and the unseen, the sun and the moon, the yin and yang. Mar’s lights are made of cast brass, one by one, by expert artisans in Madrid, the same artisans-sculptors that produce some of the sculptures for Marc Quinn and Anish Kapoor.

Veronica Mar

Based in Madrid, artist Veronica Mar creates functional sculptures inspired by nature. The organic lines of her pieces give homage to the essential beauty of nature through textures and materiality which emote in a natural way. All of her creations have their own soul, they express a duality inherent in everything that exists.

Mar has been working closely with local Spanish artisans whose expertise accompany the evolution of her pieces. The artist advocates for traditional craftsmanship as a key element to ecological sustainability and cultural harmony for its tactile experience and the cultural heritage behind it.

Since 2007 Veronica's designs have garnered international recognition from both private and institutional clients. Widely published in the press, her Autumn Leaf Swing and the S Sculpture Bench have received international design awards.
