Description

From the Domeau & Peres Editions The Moon Sofa is formed in a manner that allows both front and back comfort. The timeless form is designed by Israeli-designer Raphael Navot for Editions Domeau & Pérès. The central back support of the sofa is structured as a seat, which induces natural interactions between guests. The curves and inclinations of the organic shape are created with the intention to accompany different positions in casual comfort. Similar to the traditional french ‘causeuse’ of the ‘petit salon’, it is designed for an intimate hangout or a laid back conversation.

Raphael Navot

Born in Jerusalem, Raphael Navot moved to Paris, where he currently works and resides, after graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The multidisciplinary designer focuses on bespoke design commissions and interiors, emphasizing time-honored techniques and contemporary artisanship. Navot garnered international recognition with public projects including the Parisian flagship boutique of Japanese brand Pas de Calais, the Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers - a 66-room hotel and restaurant in central Paris - and his most published collaboration with movie director and artist David Lynch for the design of his Silencio cinema and membership club in Paris.

The designer's work and his ongoing collaborations with traditional ateliers and design publishers of beautifully crafted pieces, reflect his consistent interest in time-honored techniques and the design ethos close to the curatorial direction of Les Ateliers Courbet.

Long-standing friends with a shared passion for traditional crafts and materials, Navot and Melanie Courbet collaborated with the Ateliers Saint Jacques — a cooperative of revered master craftsmen combining bronze, stone, metal, and wood expertise outside of Paris. Initiated in 2017, the Ateliers Saint Jacques editions by Raphael Navot result from an immersive dialogue between the designer, the master artisans, and Courbet. As part of the Editions Courbet program and the gallery's mission to initiate collaborations and exchanges between contemporary artists and the ateliers that it represents, the Ateliers Saint Jacques & Raphael Navot collection aims to emphasize the ongoing cultural legacies carried on by rarefied master craftsmen around the world.
