Josef Hoffmann created the shapes of the Serie glass set for Lobmeyr’s second-generation Stefan Rath in 1912.
In 1914, Lobmeyr and Hoffmann edited the frosted glass set with black enamel bronzite decoration for the first time. While created in partnership with Lobmeyr, Josef Hoffmann’s set was originally distributed through his Wiener Werkstätte shops before he handed it over to Lobmeyr as part of its catalog.
The set belongs to significant institutional collections around the world including that of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and the MAK museum in Vienna among others. An iconic design of the early 20th Century, Hoffmann’s Series has been widely published and included in museum exhibitions across the globe.
