The rich dialogue and collaboration between contemporary designer Ted Muehling and Vienna’s revered glassmaker Lobmeyr have given birth and shape to numerous glass designs, including the ‘Balloon’ collection – which embodies both Lobmeyr’s glass blowing and engraving mastery and Muehling’s thoughtful and organic creative signature. Each glass is mouth-blown and hand engraved by the master artisans of Lobmeyr using a lead-free crystal referred to as "muslin" developed by the Lobmeyr family in the 1850s.
The set was included in the museum exhibition ‘The Lobmeyr Glass: Ted Muehling Selects from the Permanent Collection,’ on view at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum from April 23, 2010, to January 2, 2011.
