Hailing from a long lineage of wood experts, Moroccan artist Hamza Kadiri has honed his mastery of woodcraft through decades of experimentation in his Casablanca workshop, building upon formative apprenticeships in both Morocco and Japan.

Kadiri’s artistic vocabulary — defined by highly textured surfaces and bold forms that emphasize the materiality of the work — reflects his reverence for the raw material. Kadiri describes his creative process as fundamentally rooted in the material itself. He carefully selects each piece of wood for its singularity, its essence, and its inherent beauty. Each work begins with an intimate dialogue with the wood — an attentive study of its lines, density, and textures. The wood’s personality guides both the form and the ultimate artistic expression.

Kadiri’s work has garnered institutional recognition in Morocco, Europe, and Qatar, and is held in significant public and private collections, including the permanent collection of the Qatar National Museum of Islamic Arts, as well as numerous commissions by the government of Morocco. In 2024, Kadiri was selected as one of the featured artists at the Doha Design Biennale.
