Wiener Silber Manufactur

Wiener Silber Manufactur

Founded in 1882 by Viennese gold and silversmith Alexander Sturm, Wiener Silber Manufactur originally produced the silver dining and serving sets of the Habsburg Royal Palace, and were subsequently influenced by the early modernists, gaining the respect of Vienna’s intellectual elite for their visionary leadership, impeccable craftsmanship, and the elegant simplicity of their Wiener Werkstätte collections.

Having collaborated with the likes of Josef Hoffmann, Otto Prutscher and Kolomon Moser, the manufacturers count some of the most iconic Wiener Werkstätte designs among their archives.

Today the company carries on Austria’s silversmithing traditions and cultural heritage, bringing back to life and into production some of Wiener Werkstatte's most iconic designs, culled from their archive of some eleven thousand drawings.

Each piece is entirely hand-crafted at the manufacture outside of Vienna, using time-honored techniques, with silver of the purest alloy (940/1000), recently developed exclusively for the Wiener Silber Manufactur. This higher proportion of silver in Wiener Silber Manufactur’s pieces give them greater resistance to tarnishing.

Les Ateliers Courbet is pleased to introduce Wiener Silber Manufactur’s sought-after silverworks from its archive collections, as well as the silversmiths’ new collections, created with guest artists including Ted Muehling, Erwin Wurm, and Zaha Hadid, among others.
