12.03.2024 - 12.08.2024

Ateliers Courbet is pleased to return to Design Miami for the 2024 edition with SCULPT, a group installation presenting new works by several designers and master artisans. On view December 3-8 at Booth G13.

SCULPT presents the common thread that connects artists and artisans from five different continents as they independently explore organic forms, textures and materials. Employing diverse materials and time-honored techniques, each work explores conceptual or literal interpretations of Nature, often aiming to capture or reinterpret organic forms sculpted by natural phenomena over millennia. Whether cast in bronze, sculpted in wood, or carved from stone, man’s interpretations of nature’s archetypes reveal the tensions and duality between the human hand and the organic matter, both of which inform the final work.

Across generations, artists/artisans have dedicated their lives to perfecting traditional techniques in an attempt to shape or transform organic materials in ways that often reference natural forms, silhouettes, and textures, mimicking, interpreting, or simply paying homage to nature.

In the gallery’s sixth presentation at Design Miami, Ateliers Courbet will inaugurate its representation of French artist-sculptor Pierre Bonnefille at Design Miami with two new pieces from his Metamorphosis collection — an ongoing series of functional sculptures including benches, tables and bookcases sculpted in wood, stone, or cast in bronze, with layered patina and emphasized textures.

This year, Ateliers Courbet will inaugurate its representation of French artist-sculptor Pierre Bonnefille at Design Miami with two new pieces from his Metamorphosis collection — an ongoing series of functional sculptures including benches, tables and bookcases sculpted in wood, stone, or cast in bronze, with layered patina and emphasized textures. The bench and library piece exhibited at Design Miami belong to the Rhizome series, which was conceived after Bonnefille’s discovery of a particular stone originating from Ancient African copper mines.

In addition to Bonnefille, the gallery will unveil its latest Editions Courbet series, featuring guest artists Pierre Yves Guenec and Jonathan Hansen in collaboration with Courbet’s master-bronzesmiths and art founders Jimmy De Clercq and Dimitri Ginsburg in Belgium, Jesus Rodriguez of Alfa Arte in Portugal and Nikolas Kaparos in Greece.
