Designed by Mexican multidisciplinary artist Héctor Esrawe, the Gear Collection is a series of sculptural lights and tables handcrafted by Esrawe’s team of art founders outside of Mexico City. Each collection piece exemplifies Mexico's enduring metalsmithing and craftsmanship traditions.

The design concept behind these functional bronze sculptures draws inspiration from the geometry and repeating sequences of utilitarian cardboard’s honeycomb cells. Creating his own pattern and interpretation, the artist renders a fragmented and rearranged sequence that is hand-formed and then cast in bronze or aluminum. Esrawe gives a whimsical nod to the sculptural nature of the material of inspiration by emphasizing the textures on the edges of the aleatory vertical pattern, creating an elegant metal sculptural interpretation of the common and rudimentary material.

Esrawe’s body of work shows the artist’s consistent interest in combining innovative and time-honored techniques, bridging his modern design approach and vocabulary to the depth and breadth of the Mexican cultural heritage. The artist imbues common forms and materials with recontextualized purposes and revisited artisanal techniques, giving them a new light through his personal, contemporary interpretations.
