Alexander Diaz Andersson

Alexander Diaz Andersson

Swedish-born, Mexico-based, Alexander Díaz Andersson first opened his design studio on the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico after graduating from the European Institute of Design in Milan in 2008. Inspired by his multi-cultural background and experiences both in Europe and Latin America, his work is informed by Mexico’s architectural, design and cultural environments, and the Scandinavian design vocabulary.

In 2019, Andersson opens his studio and introduces his signature collection ATRA with designs that reflect the artist’s dichotomous Mexican-Swedish lineage and highlight Mexico’s ongoing craftsmanship legacy. While sleek lines reminisce the simplicity of Scandinavian forms, the materials and craftsmanship details of Andersson’s pieces exemplify the warmth and esthetics of Mexico’s interiors and emblematic mid-century designs.

Based in the neighborhood of Mexico City’s Santa Maria La Ribera, the studio engages with local artisans, combining time-honored techniques with modern technology. His work embodies the dualities between contemporaneity and tradition, and juxtapose elegant minimalism with exuberant materials.
