CONTOUR & SCRIPT
11.09.2021 – 12.29.2021
Les Ateliers Courbet is pleased to put into dialogue two new bodies of work by the London-based designer Bodo Sperlein. The first collection is the US unveiling of Script — a series of lights by German-born designer Bodo Sperlein created for Vienna’s legendary chandelier and glass manufacturer, J. & L. Lobmeyr. Sperlein adds his signature to Lobmeyr’s catalogue and extensive design legacy with a series of lights embodying the Austrian glassmakers’ artisanal dexterity and the meticulous simplicity of their design vocabulary. With his Script collection, the designer gives a contemporary twist to the iconic typography of Viennese modernist design, as exemplified in Lobmeyr’s iconic collections.
The Script lights will be presented in conjunction with new pieces developed by Bodo Sperlein for Les Ateliers Courbet, expanding on Sperlein’s 2009 Contour Collection table and bench, previously noted for their meticulous woodcraft details and fluid curves. The new additions to the collection include a console, a stool, and a chair all hand-carved in wood by master craftsmen in the United Kingdom as well as introducing a limited edition in bronze.
Sperlein’s vast portfolio of designs will be exhibited through a curated selection of his objets d’art handcrafted by the master silversmith’s at Tane. The collections will be on view at Les Ateliers Courbet from November 9th – December 29th, 2021.
