"An armrest is never far away on the ‘Piano’ sofa by Mario Milana thanks to its leather upholstered backrest modules that rotate vertically, allowing them to double as armrests at any point." -Walter Phillips
The side structures are made of cut brass. A treated, bent iron sheet on the back creates both a top surface and a bottom bookshelf and features a raised lip that prevents pieces from falling, doubling to hide unsightly wires. The brass finish is an exclusive edition developed with Les Ateliers Courbet in 2016.
The artisans of Italy are a large source of inspiration to Mario Milana. All of the chairs are handmade in and just outside of Milan and show great respect for the work of the craftsmen; the metals are all hand-welded and the weld marks left to tell the story of the production behind the object; the highest quality Italian leather is all hand-stitched and upholstered by a small family-owned operation in Seregno that has been in business for generations.
The designer truly believes that you can create innovative designs using traditional production technologies and is committed to support and uphold the craftsmen of Italy and the cultural heritage that they carry on through their craft.
