The Perroquet - or “Parrot” - series of hand-woven tapestries evokes the exuberance of the exotic bird’s plumage with its hues of greens, oranges, yellows, and reds. The depth and vibrance of the color palette are emphasized by the tight knotting work and the rich combination of fine hand-spun wool and silk. Zelmanovitch names this series ‘Tapestries’ to break through the color palette conventions and design expectations of the ‘Rug’ as a functional object. While it may be used both as a decorative and functional element on the floor or the wall, the collection reflects the artist’s sense of freedom from the confinement of traditional rug forms.
