As part of their Omakase collection of handcrafted objects representative of Japan’s ongoing design craftsmanship legacy, COOL HUNTING founders Evan Orensten and Josh Rubin invited Uji’s revered master-ceramicist Yusuke Matsubayashi to create a limited edition tea set. The Asahiyaki pieces are handcrafted using time-honored techniques that were passed on from a generation to the next within the Matsubayashi family since the 1600s. The sixteen-generation lineage of master ceramicists carries on today with Master Yusuke Matsubayashi who recently succeeded his father, National Living Treasure Master Hosai Matsubayashi. Yusuke-San continues his ancestors’ craftsmanship legacy and keeps the family’s ceramic tradition alive. These functional works of art are available individually or as part of the COOL HUNTING Omakase set, including additional pieces by Kyoto-based master craftsmen.
